Warriors? Playoffs? I think I’m gonna cry
All day long I felt a bit nervous, not nauseous, but just a bit stressed. It wasn’t my job stressing me out, but the possibility of my team, the Golden State Warriors making the playoffs with a win in Portland. Warriors fans will know what I’m talking about here. See, I was born a Warriors fan, and over the years I have wanted to quit on them so many times it’s almost comical. But I always stayed true and followed them, supported them by going to games and even buying merchandise on occasion. The Warriors are in the playoffs and for the first time in a long time (I was 20 the last time they made the playoffs) I will be able to watch meaningful post-season play. It’s made sweeter by the fact that one of my favorite coaches of all-time, Don ‘Nellie’ Nelson led them there.
I flirted with the possibility of switching teams, but in my heart, I know that you just can’t do that, no matter how hard you try. I was watching the game on FSN tonight, and mumbling to myself in the 4th quarter … “They’re actually doing to do it, I can’t fuckin’ believe this”. I understand, it’s just a playoff berth and for a large number of NBA teams, making the playoffs is a given. Not for the Warriors. For our beloved W’s to even make the playoffs they had to basically run the table and finish 16-5 over their last 21 games. That is quite a stretch and made more impressive by the quality of teams that whooped on. The Suns, Mavericks, Clippers, Jazz and Pistons all took a beating from Golden State over the last 2 months.
They finally got the monkey off of their back and I couldn’t be happier. They have to face the Mavericks in the playoffs (the best team in the league of course), but right now I’m just stoked they finished above .500 and get to show the rest of the NBA what they can do. Go Warriors!
