So, I was practicing on my guitar the other night and I realized just how bad I am at pacing myself. I have always had a tendency to take on too much and shred through tasks too quickly. Right now, for example, I am trying to learn ‘Secret Heart’ and ‘Mushaboom’ by Feist, the solo from ‘Gone For Good’ by The Shins as well as the G Blues Scale. On my nightstand, I am in the process of trying to finish numerous books, including ‘Winning’ by Jack Welch, ‘The Happiest Baby on the Block’ as well as an introductory book on Electronics. On the weekends, we are working our way through the task list in preparation for our baby boy, after all, just 5 weeks until the little man is supposed to arrive. Oh yeah, I have a job as well. For some reason, I have always felt like I should be doing more. This goes beyond any mere work ethic, and is likely connected to my insecurities about not being good enough (especially when it comes to my career). Overall, these insecurities drive me to learn more and stay ahead of the technology curve, but in everyday life, it is rather annoying as I do not know when to … well, say when. After the baby is born, everything will change of course, but for the next couple of weeks, I will still try and do it all.
