My first 5 days as a father

So, at Barefoot this morning, I was reading an article about a girl born on July 7 of this year. To make the story even more “interesting”, she weighed 7 pounds 7 ounces. It got us thinking. Elliot was born on July 4 2007 (7 4 7) and weighed 7 pounds and 4.7 ounces (again 7 4 7). Seems like that could be pretty lucky in it’s own right. On to more important things, like say, fatherhood. I have gotten my first taste of being a father, and although we are a bit tired, it is an awesome experience. We have actually gotten out of the house a little bit, and are so excited to see the changes in Elliot on a daily basis.

My days are filled with the following:

  • Changing diapers
  • Running errands
  • Getting food
  • Changing diapers
  • Holding, comforting and cuddling Elliot
  • Trying to take naps
  • Eating (a lot more than I thought I would … thanks too all of those that brought food)
  • Playing Guitar Hero II (I bought this right before the birth and I’m completely addicted)
  • Changing diapers

I won’t go on about how having a child is the most important thing you will do and I will save the negative rants about how a child sucks your life away, costs heaps and prevents you from doing anything else you desire. Fact is, we have been parents for all of 5 days, so our view is not that of seasoned parents. I can say that from the moment Elliot was born, I feel just a bit happier about everything in life.

I love this. We’ve been thinking about you guys and wondering about all the things you wrote about. It’s great to have a sense of what your days are like, and how it all feels. I can’t imagine, but I love reading about it. It will turn out that Elliot is advanced, of course, and I can’t wait to read about that, too.
