Happenings

There is so much to write about these days, but not surprisingly I have been too tired to write. While I don’t have a single theme to bind this post together, I do have a number of random thoughts bouncing in my head these days.

1. Barack Obama is our President-Elect – Thank F#@k!n God!. John McCain and Sarah Pailin? I don’t think so. I was really worried the week before the election that the republicans would start in with the fear-mongering to sway independents and fence-sitters to vote republican, similar to the shit Bush/Cheney pulled in 2004. You know, where republicans state that they fear for the safety of Americans if we elect a democratic leader. Disgusting. McCain and Palin (especially Palin) should feel the ultimate shame for how they ran their campaign. I must admit, McCain’s concession speech was humble, honest and respectful. I feel that he showed his character during that speech, and unfortunately he didn’t show that side of himself during the campaign.

2. Prop. 8 passed – This made me sad. I actually had a co-worker from New York IM me the day after the election and typed “How could Californians pass that prop?”. I had no idea what to tell him, but I think conservative pro-marriage folks everywhere can thank their Mormon friends for the money they sunk into advertising for this proposition. I have never seen the types of manipulation and just outright lies that the “Yes on 8″ folks used in ads to sway voters. Using children is just low (In reference to the TV ads that told california voters that a No on 8 would mean that gay marriage would be “taught” in schools). That type of propaganda is the lowest, dirtiest sort of slimey shit I have ever heard of. I have to wonder how these folks are protecting marriage? With “traditional marriage” sporting a divorce rate of about 50%, maybe our gay and lesbians brothers and sisters could bolster our numbers with some stable relationships that hold up over time. Who knows.

3. Elliot is walking – At the 16 Months 5 Days mark he has started walking on this own. While I think we both thought he would be walking without furniture some time ago, and I’m not surprised he is cruising by himself, it still caught me off guard. I can’t express the pure joy that I felt in watching him walk from Amy over to me today. The look on his face was priceless. He had this funny looking grin, seeming to amaze himself that he was walking and giving ear-to-ear grins when we celebrated his achievements. It was a big day.
